I'm always asked what are the big differences between road cycling and triathlon bikes. The obvious difference is that a race a triathlon in an aerodynamic position, but sometimes we have seen on aero bars road bikes, so what is the real difference? It 's a small difference between legal motion UCI time trial and triathlon bike, even if they seem very similar. The short answer is road bikes are designed to have three locations in hand, three bikes were designed to have one. Onlybecause a bike has clip on aero bars, this does not mean that there is a purpose built bike triathlon.
Draft legal triathlon is the only area where a road bike with extensions is little used spur line, but positionally speaking, I call them road bike. They should be able to do everything that a road bike and use is in fact cyclist in aero position for a triathlon bill for all the time.
Road Bikes
UCI time trial bikes have saddles law that established earlier forTriathlon Bikes. The bike is set up so that the driver has also dipped the nose of the saddle (on the rivet, as they say) that they are the correct balance point for the effort. The pedals harder, which continues to advance their point of balance. As a time trial is in the running max effort, the most effective position in front of the comfortable seat in the saddle, pull the tab is difficult. You do not have to be comfortable and its manifestations are rarely longer than abouthour so who cares?
Triathlon bikes are designed to be ridden for longer distances and at a submaximal speed. This means that the driver put more weight on the seat and aero bars because they are not hitting the pedals hard enough to support themselves. As such, the seat and aero bars took the place of the driver are the most efficient aerodynamic or more away. The reason we should distinguish between the two items are very high on the traditional triathlon spacehip triathletes larger and therefore needs an excellent location aerodynamics.
My problem with this position is twofold. First, the position is not strong and triathletes many give more power to aerodynamic pure win. Secondly, the position is further forward in relation to their equilibrium point is the front loader is more compensation from the quadriceps and knees. This muscle imbalance is paid for the transition and the beginning of the race.
The perfectThe triathlon is the location where the driver in a strong and streamlined as possible, with enough comfort to be able to remain in extension for the entire event. This is a big problem. When you sit in a race to rest, because the aerodynamic position is not sustainable, you have a problem. It will go slower and be more tired in sight. Note, however, triumphs aerodynamic power to a point, then your best position may not be where you think it is!
Since the position on the bikeand the setup of the bike in support of this position are the two differences between the definition of a road bike and triathlon bike, what about all the pipes and tubes Aero frames opposite? Some manufacturers advertise less than how fast the images based on wind tunnel tests, but I think a lot of marketing hype for the most part. Here is a basic fact: That portion of the time trial or triathlon bike that most riders pull! The frame isBoundary layer and as such does not make as great contribution in aerodynamics as you might think.
The concept of boundary layer is a difficult question, so I imagine that the air next to you is the speed I am, and at one point outside the body (and bike), the air is undisturbed. There is a "layer" of air, disrupt the transition to not go on speed, because the layer of air molecules that touch the skin. The stuff in between is the "boundaryLayer. "In my career, industrial design, I remember designing a part that went on a Boeing 777, and I remember learning of the boundary layer was 13 cm thick at the point in question. This means that the 2" part , projecting the hull was virtually had no real disadvantage aerodynamic!
What all this means is a road bike with aero tubing is not as fast as a triathlon bike with tubes, if the driver has a good location! This means, fork extensions, front and have a huge impact on the aerodynamics, as they are outside the boundary layer. Some occur very quickly finished Ironman Triathlon with people riding tubular wheels, but you can bet that they are positioned properly and has wheels, aero bars and the fork.
At the end of the day there are a lot of good triathlon bike. The first thing, positioning is the most critical. Second, large wheels are important. Third, with a good set of aero bars that have integrated the gearsthe end of the extension is important. Next hydration. Frame extensions bottles or bottles / hydration systems are much better than those behind the saddle. We must move to reach out and get back to the saddle mounted bottle, so that an area that a good result could be achieved.
Triathletes are responsible for all aspects in all three sports. The bike is so critical, yet so overlooked, it is not surprising that many bad information relating to travelTransition region. If you have the cooler for a seat holder, and someone says, think of "Brand X" Ironman Bike 10's in mind, the bicycle frame has not won the race. The athlete, who had the fastest time in all three legs!
